About the event
During this introductory workshop, you will receive step-by-step guidance in creating your own linocut, which can be used to print on a variety of papers multiple times. The versatile art of lino printing can be utilized to produce stunning pieces of art, intricate patterns, personalized stamps, and more. The use of linoleum as a printing surface began in the early 20th century, although it was initially used as a type of flooring in the 1860s. Many famous artists, such as M.C. Escher, Matisse, and Picasso, experimented with lino cutting techniques. The practice of carving a negative into a printing surface dates back many years and is utilized by various cultures, including the Japanese and Indonesians, to create exquisite works of art. To create a lino print, you will need to use a cutting tool, also known as a gouge, to carve your design into the soft, rubbery surface of a lino sheet. Once your design is carved, the printing block is coated with specialized ink using a roller, and then pressed onto paper by hand.
