About the event
During this introductory workshop, you will receive step-by-step guidance in creating your own linocut, which can be used to print on a variety of papers multiple times. The versatile art of lino printing can be utilized to produce stunning pieces of art, intricate patterns, personalized stamps, and more. Â The use of linoleum as a printing surface began in the early 20th century, although it was initially used as a type of flooring in the 1860s. Many famous artists, such as M.C. Escher, Matisse, and Picasso, experimented with lino cutting techniques. The practice of carving a negative into a printing surface dates back many years and is utilized by various cultures, including the Japanese and Indonesians, to create exquisite works of art. Â To create a lino print, you will need to use a cutting tool, also known as a gouge, to carve your design into the soft, rubbery surface of a lino sheet. Once your design is carved, the printing block is coated with specialized ink using a roller, and then pressed onto paper by hand.
